Patrick O'Brien Obituary
Patrick O’Brien, 62, passed away October 2, 2023 at Lewis Christian Memorial Village.
He was born September 26, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois to William and Grace (Bahn) O’Brien. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Linda and daughters, Colleen and Mary.
Patrick met Linda Vrell at the Cornstock Theater during the production of “The Desperate Hours.” They married on October 27, 1990 at St. Thomas Church in Peoria, Illinois and lived in Peoria, Metamora, and Macomb before settling in Springfield in 2005.
Patrick grew up in Chicago and Wood Dale, Illinois. He graduated from Loyola with a B.S. in Biology and Southern Illinois University Law School with a J.D. He practiced law for 34 years before retiring in 2022. He worked as an Assistant States Attorney in Tazwell, Peoria, Woodford, and McDonough Counties. In 2005 he started work for the Illinois Attorney General as an Assistant Attorney General, were he worked until his retirement. During his years working in McDonough County, he also taught part time at Western Illinois University.
Wherever Patrick lived he was involved in community theater. He loved watching sports and could always explain all the rules and rules changes. He especially loved his Chicago Cubs.
Patrick was many things but above all he was a loving husband and father.
A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Dan Bergbower officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
