PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

On the 20th anniversary of the landmark decision in Watchtower v. Village of Stratton, the Religious Freedom Clinic at Harvard Law School will be featured on a free live-stream program that looks at the outsized impact this 2002 Supreme Court ruling has had on First Amendment jurisprudence.

The program will answer the following questions:

  • What impact has the precedent-setting ruling had on free speech for all?

  • Can government restrict or regulate people going door-to-door who are advocating a cause, a political candidate, or religious conviction?

  • Does government have the right to regulate certain door-to-door activities to maintain safety or minimize disturbance?

  • Can municipal leaders be held personally liable if they attempt to regulate certain door-to-door activities?
