Good morning, SCBA,

As the CEO of Illinois YMCA Youth and Government, I wanted to reach out with an opportunity to invest in the next generation of young legal minds.  We are looking for lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals and enthusiasts to assist in providing feedback to high school students making legal arguments as they serve in attorney roles within the Youth & Government program. We are hoping you might be willing to volunteer to fill one or two 2-hour shifts on Saturday, March 9. Attached is more information for your consideration, and here is the Judicial Program Oral Assessment volunteer sign-up link.

Youth & Government is an incredible organization that brings 1,000 high school students from across the state to Springfield in March. They prepare all school year in many of the same roles we see in the Capitol - including legislative assistants, lobbyists, legislators, attorneys, constitutional officers, press, and so on. Then, they get to be in the Capitol building and the Supreme Court chambers to go through the whole process of debating and passing the bills they propose, making arguments as lobbyists and attorneys, serving as judges, and reporting stories and posting on social media to report about everything going on. It's incredibly rewarding to watch students go through this experience - some are confident and competitive and born leaders, and many are new to expressing themselves, meeting new people from across the state, and trying out all these important skills and civic engagement for the first time. They learn so much about themselves, and we have seen Y&G make a huge difference in many lives - some have gone on to start their own business, become county state's attorney or local mayor, go to law school, or even become a teacher to lead Y&G programs for their students - as a direct result (as they have told us) of their Y&G experiences.

Would you consider joining us and helping out on Saturday 3/9? Or, could you share this information with anyone else you think might be interested? You will be blown away by the caliber of these students as young as 15 years old - it's really fun to see.
