Ransomware Attacks:
How Businesses and Authorities Can Fight Together
February 16, 2022
3:00 PM CST

With 470 million ransomware attacks in the first three quarters of 2021 alone, last year was the most costly and dangerous year on record. Half of ransomware victims, who pay the ransom, never get their data back. The average mitigation cost of a ransomware attack is US$1.85 million.
Prosecution of criminals responsible for a ransomware attack often appears challenging. However, authorities around the world are making huge efforts to change this. We will discuss the recent “EMOTET” case where the German authorities, together with others, were able to catch the foreign source of a ransom attack wave. We will also compare and contrast the approaches in Europe and the US.
